I recognise that music holds an important place within the school curriculum and the recent review carried out by Darren Henley, who heads Classic FM, will encourage us to carefully consider the support for music in schools...
However we need to be careful that we support other aspects of the arts in the same way and also more importantly nurture creativity and innovation which are the keys to future growth and opportunities for so many of our young people. The trap we fall into with music is the same as in all other aspects of the new curriculum by looking backwards and refusing to recognise that the future is different and that we therefore need a different curriculum driving our education and learning agenda.!
