Involve is an alternative education provider supporting learners in South Leeds and I had been invited to visit the Centre by Jackson Turner who follows my blog and wanted me to see what the team at Involve were doing for some of the most vulnerable and marginalised young people in the city. The Centre is in the heart of Hunslet and is housed in a building designed for both educational and community use. The Involve Learning Centre has classrooms, an ICT suite, counselling rooms, a kitchen and community hall catering for up to twelve young people in Key Stage 3 at risk of exclusion because of their behavioural problems.
It was great to visit the team and hear about Involve's approach as a new and innovative alternative education provider supporting learners in South Leeds. They have been working with secondary schools in Leeds and their proactive and holistic approach to learning is helping young people to reach their potential through a flexible curriculum tailored to their specific needs. Developing self-esteem and efficacy are at the heart of the work the team are doing. They have all been on the STEPS programme and are trained as facilitators for the Pacific Institute's PX2 programme. The outcomes the young people are achieving at the Centre are impressive and they are clearly meeting a need and achieving considerable success.
