I was at the City Screen in York this evening to watch the Metropolitan Opera perform Richard Wagner's Die Walkure; the second opera in the wonderful Ring Cycle.
A stellar cast had been assembled for this second installment of Robert Lepage’s new production of the Ring Cycle, conducted by James Levine. Bryn Terfel was Wotan, lord of the Gods. Deborah Voigt adds the part of Brünnhilde to her extensive Wagnerian repertoire at the Met. Jonas Kaufmann and Eva-Maria Westbroek were the twins, Siegmund and Sieglinde, and Stephanie Blythe was Fricka. It was an extraordinary performance of a simply wonderful piece of musical theatre!
