An Interim Executive Board (IEB) is a governing body appointed for a temporary period in exceptional circumstances with the specific task of helping a school through any difficulties and ensuring that the school has the support it needs. This arrangement should be in place for about eighteen months and there are regulations covering the transition back to normal governance with a Shadow Governing Body (SGB) works alongside the IEB for the final six months. The IEB has three key roles:
- Providing strategic leadership to the school;
- Acting as a critical friend to the school's senior leadership team;
- Holding the headteacher and senior team to account and being accountable for the school's performance.
William Booth Primary and Nursery School is a small city primary school going through the transition from an infant school to a primary school and I was delighted to be asked to do this. It is going to be wonderful to work with the members of the IEB and the headteacher and his team to help the school on it's journey to delivering outstanding primary provision for the local children... whatever it takes! Our challenge is to build on some wonderful foundations and address the issues around literacy, numeracy and attendance raised by OFSTED so that when the next inspection takes place the school is graded good with outstanding features.
