Silverdale School!

I visited Silverdale School in Sheffield this morning to see Chas Ponsford Deputy Headteacher.

I wanted to visit Silverdale School after my visit to see the Sheffield secondary headteachers. The head teacher Helen Storey is the chair of the secondary headteachers group and this highly popular and high achieving 11-18 Comprehensive School was judged as “outstanding” and with outstanding leadership by Ofsted in 2009. The School occupies a new PFI building opened in January 2009 as part of the first phase of Sheffield’s Building Schools for the Future programme. It was great to talk to Chas Ponsford about the Cutlers project and the work we are doing to co-create a new competencies and curriculum framework supported by a learning and skills passport which would provide young people 'Made in Sheffield' with quality assured routes and pathways through school, college and university to work, to a career, a vocation or an enterprise. It was also great to hear about the work Chas and his colleagues have been doing at this highly successful school where trust, autonomy and quality assurance are clearly key elements. It was interesting to hear about the schools innovative 'learning review' approach to aspects of the curriculum blending quality assurance and self-review as mechanisms to continue to challenge, support and drive up standards even more at this high achieving and highly successful school.
