We should have learnt by now, and working in Sheffield on the Cutlers' "Made in Sheffield" Programme has simply reinforced the fact, that to create a world class education system we have to place an emphasis on process, not just content. We can’t merely teach students a bunch of facts; we have to show them how to learn and give them the skills they need to use their knowledge.
We must teach students how to research, discover, question, and obtain new information on their own, so that they can think critically on their own and achieve success. We need to give young people the basic skills... literacy and numeracy... and ensure that they can communication and that they are creative. We then need to give them the higher level skills they will need for almost any job they do in the future.
