I was at the Brinsworth Academy of Engineering this afternoon meeting with the first group of young Ambassadors, from the four schools involved in the Cutlers' "Made in Sheffield" Project, for the next day of their Cutlers' "Made in Sheffield" Ambassadors Programme.
It was great to meet these young people again, boys and girls from Bradfield School, Stocksbridge High School, Yewlands Technology College and Firth Park Community College, and to work with them as they planned for the 'Get Up to Speed' event which is part of the Sheffield Global Manufacturing Festival in April. The Ambassadors were given the task of organising the layout of the 'Get Up to Speed' event starting with the blank canvas of the Blue Shed' where the event will take place on 17th April.
The Cutlers' Ambassadors programme aims to develop through a basic can, do, review cycle:
- 'character skills': responsibility, adaptability, resilience, determination and confidence;
- 'core skills': communication, literacy, numeracy, creativity and learning to learn;
- experience of the world of work; and
- academic and technical excellence.
The 'Get Up to Speed' event provides a brilliant opportunity to develop these skills through planning, organising and delivering the WOW factor! Watch this space!!
