I wonder how the workforce in our schools feels this weekend after the last week where we had the publication of Sir Michael Wilshaw's second annual report from our friends at OFSTED and the DfE published the Key Stage 2 data! Especially those colleagues who on Monday morning must turn up at schools described by Sir Michael as "totally inadequate" and teach!!
One of the leadership maxims is "love the ones you've got" and over the last twenty-five years I have worked with colleagues in authorities as diverse as Wolverhampton, North Yorkshire, York, Leeds, Nottingham City, Sheffield and Staffordshire. Authorities performing at both ends of Sir Michael Wilshaw's 'league tables'. And the thing I have learn't from colleagues like Sir Tim Brighouse, Mick Waters, Ken Robinson and Lou Tice and from experts like Tony Wagner and Tom Peters is that you have to lead, coach and motivate your colleagues to release their magic!
