It was wonderful to hear Tony Peddar, the current Master Cutler, Doug Liversidge, who chairs the Cutlers' education committee and George Kilburn, the Chief Executive of the Cutlers' Company, all talk so positively and enthusiastically about what we have achieved. It was also deeply encouraging to hear what employers involved in the scheme said about the young people they were working with and to have other sectors keen to get involved. Headteachers and colleagues from schools were also totally committed to continuing to develop the work and other schools are queuing up to get involved.
It is encouraging that employers in Sheffield, led by the Cutlers' Company, have worked together with schools to develop a model that supports the delivery of academic rigour but also produces rounded and grounded young people who have the skills and behaviours that are essential in the world of work.
The Cutlers' "Made in Sheffield" Programme aims to develop strategies and approaches focused on academic and technical excellence, to develop higher level skills and abilities, to shape character, to develop resilience and grit and to nurture innovation and creativity.
