Singapore (Teach Less, Learn More), Canada (Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec) and of course Finland are increasingly placing emphasis on teaching and developing the skills, attributes and character needed to succeed in school, the world of work and life in general.
Across the world we are seeing high performing educational systems responding to the needs of the world of work and local communities, while here in England more and more of our attention is geared towards what is central and what is core. We must embrace creativity and innovation. We must develop critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork. Of course, young people need great literacy and numeracy and they need great GCSE results but they need so much more. There is a another way, a way that can inspire our young people, our teachers, engage our communities, and we are developing it in Sheffield in the Cutlers 'Better Learners, Better Workers' programme.
