'Made in Sheffield' developed as a response to concerns expressed by
employers about school leavers lack of employability skills and
builds on evidence and research about what local employers need and the skills
that young people need to succeed in work.
A partnership of employers and schools, led by Sheffield City Council (SCC) and the Cutlers Company, developed a demand driven, employer-led skills framework currently operating in key employment sectors all vital to the success of the Sheffield City Region: Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing, NHS, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Retail Sector, Construction Sector, Computer Science and Digital Sector, Arts and Cultural Sector, Care Sector and Sport and Well-being Sector.
'Made in Sheffield' is focused on student
‘Ambassadors’ who experience an enrichment programme and promote the business
sectors to their peers. Schools are supported by Business Champions who
connect the school to the world of work. And at the end of the programme the
student ambassadors receive an employer endorsed Skills Passport, which is
awarded by the Cutlers Company.
