My colleague Sarah Ward and I were at Balby Carr Community Academy yesterday morning launching the 'Better Learners, Better Workers' scheme in our first Doncaster school. It was great to have John Innes, the headteacher, with us, since John was part of the original team who developed the Cutlers' 'Made in Sheffield' scheme. John's passion and commitment to his students shone through the session.
Wendy Trout, Careers and Work Related Learning Manager, had organised aY9 assembly and workshop for us to launch the programme and a Y8 assembly for us to deliver our first Y8 WOW Factor session. Sarah and really enjoyed working with the Balby Carr students... clearly they have some amazing young people at the academy and we look forward to working with them to release the WOWFactor!! The Y9 sessions went really well... the students were a real credit to John, Wendy and the team... they were attentive, listened carefully and after the workshop, for a smaller targeted group, were very interested in the opportunity to become Cutlers' ambassadors since most of the students took away an application form. be interesting to see how many apply! Sarah and I are looking forward to the next session in February when we will be back to deliver the second Y8 WOW Factor session with a focus on skills. I am also looking forward to going back to Baby Carr Community Academy on Tuesday morning for the Cutlers' 'Better Learners, Better Workers, ambassador interviews!!
