AT WESTFIELD SCHOOL AGAIN!

I visited Westfield Sports College in Sheffield again yesterday morning to see Andy Ireland, the headteacher, and Gary Simmons, the deputy head teacher. Their vision, passion and commitment has helped us to drive the development of 'Made in Sheffield' over the last three years.

WHEN NOTHING IS SURE, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

It's sad that education hasn't really featured in the election to date and that people seem so much more interested in other things when education is the key to success in everything else.

THIS SATURDAY

THERE'S STILL NO MONEY!

With the election less than four weeks away, headteachers and governors understand that no-one will be offering increased public expenditure over the next Parliament and that the era of school budgets being protected is well and truly over.

A GREAT SCHOOL FOR EVERY CHILD AND YOUNG PERSON!

Why isn't it writ large in every party manifesto that we must work to create a great school for every child and young person, whatever it takes... because, if we can't, can someone tell me whose children should go to the schools that aren't great?

Singapore (Teach Less, Learn More), Canada (Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec) and of course Finland are increasingly placing emphasis on teaching and developing the skills, attributes and character needed to succeed in school, the world of work and life in general.

THIS ELECTION... SCHOOLS MATTER!

Another Easter, another election and sadly we are still focusing attention on additional accountability, school choice and competition, short-term outcomes, and data-driven decision-making despite the evidence that any high performing countries and systems are re-examining their structures and policies to move towards learning leadership, beautiful systems and intelligent accountability.
