What makes educational provision in Finland so good?
FREE DAYCARE: Parents can send children aged between eight months and five years.
FREE PRE-SCHOOL: At age six, there is a year of pre-school provision.
FREE SCHOOL DINNERS: All children attending school full-time get free healthy lunches.
SCHOOL STARTS AT 7: Basic compulsory education starts at age seven and ends at age 16
STUDENTS CHANGE SCHOOL AT 16: At 16, students either go to vocational school or an upper secondary school for those who want to go on to university.
NO LEAGUE TABLES: There are no league tables.
NO OFSTED: There are no formal inspections.
NO NATIONAL TESTS/SATS: The only national exam is at the age of 18 or 19
NO UNIVERSITY FEES: There are no university fees for home or EU students
