THE CUTLERS' SKILLS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The Cutlers’ ‘Better Learners, Better Workers’ programme is a consistent and coherent employer-led approach that develops, in young people, the skills needed for employability and the world of work. It reconnects schools and business / employers through Business Champions and builds relationships and an understanding of the world of work in schools. In simple terms, it provides:

• Businesses with home grown talent which will allow them to grow and:
• Young people with the skills they need to gain employment and be the best they can be

The Cutlers’ programme has been successfully rolled out across 10 sectors in Sheffield itself as ‘Made in Sheffield’. Of the two groups of students who have completed the programme, most are now in post-16 education, with five students now on apprenticeships. Some key feedback includes:

“….time and again, people saw the hospital as doctors and nurses….didn’t understand that Sheffield Teaching Hospital is like a small village….with 120 different jobs.” – Teacher

Following the success in Sheffield, the Cutlers’ Company is now approaching sector leaders across the Sheffield City Region with a view to establishing pilot programmes in Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham.
