OFSTED Inspections from January 2012!

From January 2012, school inspections are changing again and will report on four key judgements:

• achievement; 
• the quality of teaching; 
• the quality of leadership and management; 
• behaviour and safety. 

Inspectors will take account of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of young people when judging the overall effectiveness of the school. They will give more emphasis to reporting on behaviour, with particular attention to conduct in lessons and young people's behaviour around the school. They will consider each child’s safety from bullying and harassment and take account of the extent to which the education provided by the school meets the needs of all the young people at the school. Inspectors will look in particular at the progress and attainment of young people who have a disability or special educational needs. They will focus strongly on standards of reading and numeracy in primary schools including observing the children read. They will focus strongly on literacy in secondary schools, and report on the effectiveness of the sixth form. They will also report on the breadth and balance of the curriculum and its contribution to improving achievement for all young people.

This rigorous and more challenging OFSTED approach means that we are moving into even more interesting times!
