GCSE Results!

CONGRATULATIONS! It is another great day for young people, their families and their teachers as 650000 young people receive their GCSE results today and figures published by exam boards showed that around 70% of entries were awarded at least a C – the 23rd straight increase and up 0.8 percentage points on last year.

Over 23% of papers were graded A* or A – a rise of 0.6% on last years results and the results again show that our girls continued to outperform our boys as the gap in results widened with 26.5 per cent of exams taken by girls graded at least an A, compared with just 19.8 per cent among boys. Good news was that physics, chemistry, biology and maths were among the five fastest growing subjects this year and surprisingly Religious Studies entries increased by more than any other subject – up by almost 18 per cent to 22,1974. Unsurprisingly there was a huge drop in foreign language entries reflecting the move away from languages under previous curriculum changes.
