Trust, Empower and Enable!

Michael Gove spoke passionately about the difference we can make at the launch of the 'Teaching Schools' initiative.
"Looking at the road ahead can sometime be unnerving. The enormity of the challenges we face can be daunting: for all the advances we have made - and are making - in education, thousands of children are still being failed. And events such as the summer riots can test our faith further: schools are being confronted with a more complex set of challenges than ever before. Yet looking around the room today, it’s impossible not to be optimistic about the future. Each one of you is living proof that one person can make a difference to the lives of thousands. And by listening to you, by trusting you, by handing power to you, there’s no limit to what we can achieve."
Michael Gove

Those of us who have looked deeply at the facts and really understand the evidence know that this isn't simply about 100 headteachers. We need to be more inclusive and respectful of the enormous pool of extraordinary people out there because what Michael Gove said, so well, is true of thousands of colleagues in schools across the country who over the years have made an incredible difference to thousands of lives. If we want to create a learning landscape where every school is a great school we need to trust, empower and enable talented headteachers, teachers, teaching assistants and others to step up and share their magic and their expertise and their knowledge and experience of what works.
