SET YOUR GOALS AND TARGETS!

We all know that setting goals and personal targets is a vital tool for anyone who wants to achieve anything. It gives us our long-term vision as well as helping with our short-term motivation…

The important thing is that by setting ourselves clear goals and targets we are able to measure and constantly and consistently celebrate our achievements and our successes, and more importantly focus on the areas where we are not achieving great things. I know we struggle everywhere with consistency but so much of what we are doing, in schools I know, across the country is world class, outstanding and extra-ordinary; whatever anyone says colleagues in so many places have achieved, and are achieving, great things.

It's interesting that colleagues in so many organisations struggle with the long pointless daily grind and are worn down by the negative, destructive, command and control culture. Experience tells me that we need to develop a culture of success and constantly search for the exceptional because this is how teams make real progress and achieve the remarkable. But it only happens when you have intelligent accountability and where colleagues feel trusted, empowered and energised. They release their magic not because they are bullied and tested but because they passionately believe in what they are doing.

The first step on the road to outstanding is to consider what you want to achieve; what you want to do with your wild and precious life now, tomorrow or 10 years into the future. Set your goals and targets and get on with it!
