'Be The Best You Can Be!'

I discovered this brilliant programme and the stars just sold it to me! 21st Century Legacy was founded by Dr David Hemery CBE, Olympic Gold Medallist and former World Record Holder, to help deliver a bid promise that the London 2012 Olympic Games would be an inspiration to the youth of Britain and the rest of the world. The 'Be the Best you can Be!' Programme enables young people to discover the unique potential within themselves and inspires, engages and empowers them to pursue and fulfil their dreams.

"We intend to catch the Olympic stardust and challenge young people to follow their own dreams, in whatever field they choose. The Be the Best you can Be! Programme aims to inspire, engage and empower. I hold a strong belief that there is a spark of greatness, something special and unique in everyone. Be the Best you can Be! is designed to unlock more of the students untapped potential. With all that is going on in the world today, our aim is to help young people to take more control of their lives by becoming more self-aware and self-responsible. A key to unlocking these attributes is by enabling Teachers to become more facilitative. We should never under-estimate the power of giving our full attention when listening and generating ownership through effective questions."
Dr David Hemery CBE
David Hemery has established an educational programme to inspire children to "be the best they can be". The former athlete's message to young people, through his educational charity 21st Century Legacy, is not dependent on stamina or even sporting talent. With the motto "inspire, engage, empower", his charity aims to develop what he calls "the spark of greatness in everyone". The core of the programme is the acronym Grow:
  • Goal - what do you want to achieve?
  • Reality - what is happening now?
  • Options - what could you do?
  • Will - what will you do?
Importantly, this is coupled with a coaching approach that strives to develop self-awareness and responsibility.
The programme introduces the key elements in a workshop where teachers are coached on how to help children challenge themselves, overcome obstacles and support their peers in their bid to achieve their goals, whatever they may be. The 'Be the Best You Can Be!' program me is supported by a national network of coaches and Olympian and Paralympian speakers. For more information on 'Be the Best You Can Be!' visit their website at www.21stcenturylegacy.com.
