SHEFFIELD COLLEGE

I visited The Sheffield College again yesterday with Mike Garnock-Jones to see Heather McDonald, the College Principal, and Caroline Morrison, who leads for the College on the Made in Sheffield programme.
Mike and I outlined the fact that the pilot phase was ending and we wanted to review, evaluate and further develop the work we have been doing. We wanted Heather and Caroline's strategic overview and to know how the College see the future for the programme, how we can make it sustainable and how we might continue to fund developments alongside the maintenance of the elements the College values and wants to keep. Sheffield College has taken the skills framework and are using it with all their students and Heather Scott who leads the Hillsborough College site is a passionate supporter of the work and her support has been critical as we have developed our work. I am also grateful that colleagues at the College, including Bill Jones and Andrew Cropley, have given us their advice and support as we have developed the programme.

Heather and Caroline are looking to further develop the skills approach and we discussed how we could link it to employment sectors and roles to replicate the work New College in Nottingham and the Ontario Skills Passport have already developed. We also talked about how we could target and support young people coming through the programme in the schools into advanced provision at the College.
