BETTER LEARNERS, BETTER WORKERS

The Cutlers’ ‘Better Learners, Better Workers’ programme is a consistent and coherent, employer-led approach that develops, in young people, the skills needed for employability and the world of work. It reconnects schools and business/employers through Business Champions and builds relationships and an understanding of the world of work in schools. In simple terms, it provides:
·      Businesses with home grown talent which will allow them to grow; and
·      Young people with the skills they need to gain employment and be the best they can be!
The scheme is now operating in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield:
  • In Barnsley the healthcare, construction and engineering ‘taster’ programme is being delivered by Barnsley Healthcare Federation.
  • In Doncaster the healthcare and engineering ‘taster’ programme is being delivered by Doncaster Skills Academy.
  • In Rotherham we have two strands. The NHS programme is being delivered by Rotherham Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the engineering programme is being delivered by the Workwise Foundation supported by Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.
  • In Sheffield we have six strands. The engineering programme is being delivered by the Workwise Foundation working with a range of engineering and advanced manufacturing companies. The NHS programme is being delivered by the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The computer science/digital industries programme is being delivered by the University of Sheffield and SERO Consulting. The arts and cultural sector programme is being delivered by Ignite Imaginations working with a range of cultural partners. The construction programme is being delivered by BAM, Kier, Keepmoat, Go Construct and Henry Boot. The emergency services programme is being delivered by the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

We are currently working with 24 secondary schools, academies and colleges across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.
o   In Sheffield we are now working with 13 schools and colleges;
o   In Barnsley we are now working with 5 schools and with expressions of interest from one more;
