I heard the tragic news about Andy Pickles. Andy died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, 4th March. He will be sorely missed!
Andy Pickles had worked in corporate finance until he switched to teaching at the age of 40. I first knew Andy when he was headteacher of Harewood C of E Primary where his energy, passion and commitment helped the school develop and grow and secure
an outstanding OFSTED report. Then, four years ago, he was appointed to Holy
Trinity CE Primary School, in Cookridge, where he became a much-loved, respected and very successful head teacher. Although I left Education Leeds at Christmas 2010, I have some very special memories of Andy as head teacher at Harewood and Holy Trinity. His passion, energy and larger than life personality was great and he brought something really special to education in Leeds.
I know everyones thoughts and prayers go to Andy’s family, friends, colleagues and the children of the school at this very sad time. Personally, I am shocked that someone with so much to offer has died so suddenly. What a sad, sad loss. We must continue to celebrate, nurture, coach and support the people who bring so much to our children, our families and our communities.
