SHEFFIELD SPRINGS ACADEMY

Mike Garnock-Jones and I visited Sheffield Springs Academy again this morning to see Russell Heritage, the principal, and some of his senior colleagues to discuss how the academy could get involved in the 'Made in Sheffield' programme

It was a real privilege to visit Sheffield Springs Academy again and meet Russell and some of his team who were passionate about enriching the curriculum offer for their students and connecting provision to the world of work. Russell also stressed that the academy serves a complex and challenging community and is engaged in a relentless drive for higher standards of learning and teaching focused around ensuring that students achieve higher levels of literacy and numeracy. Our discussions focused around how the academy could connect with the Cutlers' programme by shadowing some of the current strands or by developing a new strand linked to another industry sector. However you look at it, it is interesting that this challenging context requires the application of the Cutlers' "Made in Sheffield" skills  across this learning community focused around developing skills, character and knowledge and particularly helping young people and colleagues in schools develop persistence, determination and discipline!
