WESTFIELD SPORTS COLLEGE

I visited Westfield Sports College in Sheffield again this morning.

I last visited Westfield Sports College in December 2011 when we were developing the Made in Sheffield model. I went to see Siobhan Kent, the deputy head teacher, whose vision, passion and energy has driven the development of their Challenge Curriculum which occupies a day a week of the Year 7 curriculum with a carousel of challenges. The schools is now working with us on two strands of Made in Sheffield, the Computer Science and Retail strands and this morning I had an interesting meeting with Andy Ireland, the schools energetic and very enthusiastic headteacher,  where I outlined the fact that the pilot phase of Made in Sheffield was ending and we wanted to review, evaluate and further develop the work we have been doing. 

It was great to talk to Andy Ireland about his vision for the curriculum, the impact the Made in Sheffield programme had already had at Westfield and how he sees the programme contributing in the future to the development of the school. Andy had then arranged for me to meet a small group of Year 10 students, who were  Cutlers' Ambassadors on the Computer Science and Retail strands of the 'Made in Sheffield' programme. These were simply wonderful adverts for the school, as well as being some incredibly talented young people who talked confidently and positively about their programme and their role as ambassadors.
